Since ending its manufacturing operations in Brazil, Ford has completely overhauled its operations in the South American country, revamping its lineup and adding the Ford Transit for commercial customers. Since then, the Transit has become the fastest growing commercial van in Brazil, quickly finding its foothold in that market and enjoying tremendous success in its first year on sale there. Following the launch of Ford Pro in Brazil – the automaker’s dedicated commercial entity – more Ford Transit variants are on the way, including the first equipped with an automatic transmission. Now, Ford Pro is showing off what the forthcoming chassis cab model is capable of with this new Transit Mobile Command Center, too.
The Ford Transit Mobile Command Center is currently on display at the 2023Â LAAD Defence & Security show in Riocentro, Rio de Janeiro, alongside a law enforcement version of the all-new Ford Ranger and a Transit ambulance. It foreshadows exactly what’s possible for the chassis cab model, which is scheduled to launch in Brazil in the second half of this year, serving as a mobile intelligence unit for police in that particular country.
To create this Transit Mobile Command Center, Ford Pro added a telescoping mast with LED headlights, as well as a mobile camera with 360-degree vision, 42x zoom capability, night vision, and image stabilization. The vehicle also features three additional cameras located on the front and sides of the vehicle, all with a facial and license plate recognition system. The box attachment itself is made from aluminum and has an office-like interior layout with tables, chairs, two 43-inch screens, air conditioning, a coffee area, a minibar, cabinets, and 110/220-volt power outlets. Access to that area is handled by facial, digital, code, or card recognition, preventing unwanted parties from getting inside.
“This unit equipped as a mobile command center is just a demonstration of the great versatility of the Transit Chassis, which we will launch in the second half of the year,” said Daniel Santos, Product Development Manager at Ford South America. “It will already reach the market ready to receive various types of implements, which we are developing in advance in partnership with important modifiers to meet different types of needs.”
