The Ford Puma continues to rack up accolades – and sales – over in Europe, where the crossover closed out 2022 as one of that region’s top 20 best-selling new vehicles, a trend that continued in February of this year. Consumer enthusiasm around the Ford Puma hasn’t let up since then, either, as that particular model once again finished within the top 25 best-selling new vehicles in Europe over the course of Q1, a three-month period that also saw the Ford Kuga continue its reign atop the PHEV sales charts, according to new data from JATO Dynamics.
In the first quarter of 2023, the Ford Puma held down its spot as the 20th best-selling new vehicle in Europe by moving 34,658 units – an 11 percent decrease versus Q1 2022, however. It trailed the Tesla Model Y, Dacia Sandero, Volkswagen T-Roc, Peugeot 208, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, Toyota Yaris Cross, Fiat/Abarth 500, Dacia Duster, Renault Clio, Volkswagen Golf, Peugeot 2008, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Qashqai, Citroen C3, Skoda Octavia, Kia Sportage, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Renault Captur, but finished ahead of the Toyota C-HR, Fiat Panda, Ford Focus, Volkswagen T-Cross, and Toyota Corolla to round out the top 25.
In terms of the overall European market, new vehicle registrations increased by 26 percent to 1,414,815 units in March, and by 17 percent in Q1 to 3,220,806 units – the highest number since 2019, which experts credit to a ramp up in production as supply chain issues begin to ease.
“The increase in registrations is largely explained by accumulated orders from months previous that could not be delivered due to the lack of components at the time,” said Felipe Munoz, Global Analyst at JATO Dynamics. “We’ll be watching closely to see how this growth is impacted by further inflationary pressure in the coming months.”
