The Ford Authority Take
In recent months, Ford has filed a large number of patents outlining ideas for truck accessories, including one for a multi-panel bed, a modular storage system, a cargo management system, cargo modules, and a sliding crossbar for cargo beds, to name just a few. Now, this new patent keeps that trend going by introducing an idea for an accessory attachment system that could be used in future Ford pickups, too.
The attachment system present in this new patent would be used to attach various types of accessories to a vehicle, though it centers around using this particular piece in the bed of a pickup. The main idea here is to provide a way to enhance a truck’s ability to transport accessories, tools, containers, and other items typically carried in the bed of a pickup by using “feet” and grooves which those feet lock into to hold them securely in place.
As we can see here, the base plate of the attachment system would mount directly into the floor of the bed, where users could secure all sorts of accessories to it without having to worry about them rolling around in the bed or even flying out of it while the vehicle is moving down the road.
This idea is pretty simple, yet potentially very useful for those that use their trucks to haul things, whether that be for recreational purposes or from job site to job site. With the parts and accessories market growing by leaps and bounds in recent years, it also makes a lot of sense given the fact that owners are using their trucks to carry more and more things these days, too.
