Future Ford Vehicles May Get Tables In Their Cabins

Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for console table assemblies that could be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.

The patent was filed on October 14^th, 2021, published on April 20^th, 2023, and assigned serial number 0121069.

In addition to its Interior Work Space feature and folding steering wheel that can turn into a small table, The Blue Oval has filed a handful of patents that aim to make the interiors of future Ford vehicles more like mobile offices, including one for a deployable desk and another for a retractable table for autonomous vehicles. As the automaker works to develop vehicles that can be used for far more than just driving purposes, this newly filed patent keeps that trend going by introducing an idea for a console table assembly that could be used in future Ford vehicles.

The console table outlined in this patent consists of a base, pivot arm, and the table itself, all of which can fold neatly away when not in use. Then, when the user wants to utilize this nifty feature, the table could be deployed, giving them a space to work, eat, relax, or even watch TV via a built-in retractable screen.

This idea makes quite a bit of sense for numerous reasons, particularly as autonomous vehicle technology continues to progress. This console table could serve as the perfect work surface for those that constantly find themselves out in the field, such as contractors or real estate agents. It also makes a lot of sense for those that enjoy camping in their converted vans, as having the ability to purchase a vehicle with such a feature already built-in seems quite attractive. Coupled with the fact that Ford continues to roll out similar features in production vehicles, this patent seems to have a pretty good chance at coming to fruition at some point in the near future.
