After living in the shadows of the regular Ford Bronco for many years, the Ford Ranger based Bronco II has begun to gain steam in the collector car market as of late. In recent months, we’ve seen a few nice examples of this SUV pop up at auction and sell for solid money, including this well-preserved 1986 model and a heavily-modified 1987 Ford Bronco II that we just featured last September. Now, that same ’87 model has once again surfaced for sale at Bring a Trailer, this time with a few changes made by the current owner.
This 1987 Ford Bronco II was originally modified by Rock Bottom Off Road in Lake Elsinore, California, before it was acquired by the seller last year, and features a relatively new blue paint job on the exterior. The passenger side front fender was replaced last year, though the real story here are the bevy of modifications present on this SUV – a list that includes custom black powder-coated bumpers, a brush guard, skid plate, LED headlights, KC driving lights, and new side markers and rear hatch struts, which were just installed.
The Bronco II rolls on a set of 15-inch American Racing wheels wrapped with 31×10.50-inch Falken Wildpeak M/T tires, helping it ride high when coupled with a four-inch lift kit from Rough Country. However, the interior is a totally different story, as it’s mostly stock, save for a newer Pioneer stereo, new speakers, and a new ignition switch, along with factory amenities such as power accessories and air conditioning.
Power for this high-riding utility comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 2.9L V6, which is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox in this particular instance. Thanks to a potential odometer rollover back in 2010, it’s unclear how much mileage this 1987 Ford Bronco II has accumulated, but it presents nicely enough that one could overlook that little transgression.

Junk then, junk now !
Had a 88 ford ranger stx for 15 years put 198000 on that 4×4 truck. Same color of interior. Liked that pocket on passenger side. Certainly would call that truck junk.
Looks top heavy and easy to tip over.
