A serious rainstorm appears to have firmly parked over Dover Motor Speedway for the racing weekend, forcing Xfinity Series qualifying to be canceled on April 28th, 2023. As such, the lineup for the race on April 29th was set by formula instead of on-track speed, putting the No. 00 NASCAR Ford of Cole Custer on the front row for the forthcoming event.
As a reminder, in the event that qualifying cannot be completed for any reason, NASCAR relies on a formula in order to set the lineup. This formula takes into account an individual driver’s performance in the previous weekend’s race with the following metrics:
- Fastest lap time position (15 percent)
- Driver’s final race position (25 percent)
- Owner’s final race position (25 percent)
- Owner points position (35 percent)
The No. 48 Chevy Camaro of Parker Kligerman was granted the pole position thanks to his performance in the previous week’s events, with the No. 00 Mustang of Custer starting beside him. Custer’s No. 00 NASCAR Ford will be the lone Blue Oval racer to start within the top 10, surrounded by a sea of Chevys. The next-best Ford will be the No. 98 Mustang of Riley Herbst, who will start in 11th.
Custer in the No. 00 Mustang, Sheldon Creed in the No. 2 Camaro, Kligerman in the No. 48 Camaro and the No. 27 Camaro of Jeb Burton are eligible for Saturday’s Dash 4 Cash, in which the highest-finishing competitor will take home a $100,000 check.
All on-track activity has been canceled on Friday. The Xfinity Series race is scheduled to start at 1:47 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 29th – weather permitting, of course.
