The Ford Escort Cosworth RS is one of the more unique – and most iconic – Blue Oval models from its long and illustrious history, which was originally conceived as a homologation version of the fifth-gen European model that allowed the automaker to qualify for Group A competition in the World Rally Championship. Since it became eligible to import to the U.S., we’ve seen a few of these special machines hit the auction block, including this 1993 model and a 1995 example that starred on the TV show Wheeler Dealers. Now, this rather rare 1992 Ford Escort Cosworth RS Miki Biason Edition has surfaced for sale at Bring a Trailer, too.
This isn’t any ordinary 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth – as if there is such a thing – as it’s number 52 of 120 Italian-market Miki Biason Edition examples built. Originally sold by Compagnia Italiana Automobile in Cagliari, Italy, the hot hatch has just 4,400 kilometers on the clock as well, which is incredibly low, and looks brand new as a result of many years of tender loving care.
Of the 7,000 Escort RS Cosworth examples produced in total, this particular car is said to be one of the first 2,500. The Miki Biason Edition was exclusive to the Italian market, named after the rally driver who competed in a Ford starting in 1992, later driving an Escort RS Cosworth during the 1993 and 1994 WRC seasons. All Miki Biason Edition models were finished in Diamond White with no sunroof, along with unique body parts such as flared fenders, a vented hood, and a large rear spoiler, along with hexagon-pattern seat inserts.
Power for this special machine comes from the turbocharged Cosworth 2.0L I-4 engine, which sends an even 224 horsepower and 224 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. An incredibly rare and desirable car, this low-mile, ultra-limited model figures to attract heavy interest at auction – along with quite a few bids, to boot.
