Vaughn Gittin Jr. is no stranger to The Blue Oval, having spent years competing in Formula Drift behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang and the Ultra4 Racing series in his 4400 Class Ford Bronco, not to mention the fact that he’s also the mastermind behind RTR Vehicles and even helped the automaker develop the 2024 Mustang’s drift brake feature. Recently, Gittin Jr. unveiled his brand new, S650 Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5-FD Formula Drift racer, ushering in a new era for the pony car, as well as its driver’s return to that particularly series. During the reveal, Gittin Jr. also revealed that YouTuber Adam Lizotte-Zeisler – or Adam LZ, as he’s otherwise known – would be behind the wheel of one of these new racers at the recent Formula Drift Long Beach event, but things didn’t exactly go to plan.
Instead, shortly after taking off in the brand new race car, Lizotte-Zeisler wound up making a small mistake that resulted in him smashing into the wall at speed, right in front of thousands of eager fans. Luckily, the whole thing went down during a practice run, which saw the driver miss his line by just a touch, leading to a total disaster – though he wasn’t hurt, at least.
While the brand new Mustang racer suffered significant damage to its left side, these cars are designed for this kind of thing, which makes for quick and easy repairs, at least. In fact, it isn’t long before Lizotte-Zeisler made it back out on the track, though he can’t quite seem to get a handle on the pony car drifter on this particular day.
The YouTuber/car fanatic blames his struggles on the unique layout of the Long Beach circuit, which features a flowing transition from corner to corner, leaving little time to set up the car for the next turn. Regardless, with a true pro like Vaughn Gittin Jr. in his ear giving him advice, we expect to see major improvements in the near future.

Good. Drifting belongs in that segment of motorsports geared to those with a single digit IQ.
