While the Ford Mustang has long been a sought-after model in the collector car market, not all pony cars are created alike. Some are rarer and more desirable than others, and that includes special models like the SVT Cobra. Throw in a rare paint color like Mystic Metallic – or Mystichrome, as it was later known – and that desire factor ramps up significantly. Thus, this stellar 1996 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra covered in Mystic Metallic paint that’s currently up for grabs at Cars & Bids figures to be a hot entity for that particular reason.
That particular paint color makes this 1996 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra just one of 2,000 produced, which is obviously a small number. However, this car also has just 18,500 miles on the clock and is in stellar condition, making it even more desirable. Outside of a scuff on the bottom of the front bumper, curb rash on the wheels, and creases on the seats, it’s in essentially like-new condition, too.
A one-owner car until 2022, this Mystic Cobra is well-equipped with features such as the Preferred Equipment Package 250A, along with standard goodies like an SVT Cobra-specific body kit, 17-inch cast aluminum wheels, a Traction-Lok rear axle, black leather seats, air conditioning, cruise control, and a full array of power accessories.
Power for this Mystic Cobra comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 4.6L V8, which in this guise was originally rated to produce 305 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. As a rare, one-year-only offering in stellar condition with few miles on the clock, it figures to generate considerable interest at auction, which is typically the case with these color-shifting pony cars.
