2016 Ford Super Duty Recalled Over Front Airbag Safety Issue (Updated)

Airbags have been the subject of many automotive recalls over the years, with the most recent – at least for The Blue Oval – pertaining to select 2004-2006 Ford Ranger models that received replacement front passenger air bag inflators under a previous recall that were installed incorrectly, meaning that it may not inflate properly. Now, we can add the 2016 Ford Super Duty to this list as well, as that particular pickup is now being recalled over a front airbag safety issue as well, according to the Associated Press.

This new recall affects around 310,000 2016 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 models, in which the driver’s side airbag may not inflate in the event of a crash. The problem is reportedly caused by dust that accumulates inside a cable that’s located inside of the steering wheel, which could interfere with an electrical connection. At this time, Ford is unaware of any crashes or injuries stemming from this issue.

Owners of affected models may hear clicking of popping noises coming from inside of the steering wheel, and may also notice that the horn or steering wheel-mounted controls aren’t working as potential symptoms of the problem. Additionally, the airbag warning light may illuminate, signaling that there’s an issue.

To fix this problem, Ford is asking dealers to replace the steering wheel wiring assembly with a new one. Owners of affected vehicles can expect to receive notification of this recall staring on July 5th, 2023.
