2023 Ford F-150 Tremor Beats Ram, Chevy In Comparison Test

Long a dominant force atop the U.S. sales charts, the Ford F-150 has also beaten its foes in a series of recent comparison tests, all in different guises. The regular F-150 took down the all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra in one comparison, while the V8-powered Ford F-150 Raptor R defeated the Ram TRX and the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning got the nod over its rival, the Rivian R1T. Last month, that trend continued as MotorTrend declared the 2023 Ford F-150 Tremor as superior to the Ram 1500 Rebel, and now, that same rugged pickup has emerged victorious over the Chevy Silverado 1500 Trail Boss and Toyota Tundra TRD Pro as well.

All of these pickups – along with the Ram 1500 Rebel G/T – represent middle-of-the-pack off-road variants compared to their more hardcore brethren – a list that includes the F-150 Raptor, Ram TRX, and Silverado 1500 ZR2, though the Tundra TRD Pro stands atop Toyota’s lineup in that regard. In terms of upgrades, all of these pickups share some similarities such as all-terrain tires, skid plates, and revised suspensions, too.

The 2023 Ford F-150 Tremor does have some proverbial tricks up its sleeve in the form of Trail Turn Assist and a limited-slip front differential, which the competition doesn’t offer. In this case, MotorTrend tested an example fitted with the twin-turbocharged Ford 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine, and it proved to be quicker than the rest as well, though it was middle of the pack in terms of on-road comfort – all while claiming the crown in terms of off-road capability, however. When the dust settled, picking a winner didn’t prove too difficult a task.

“After flogging these four trucks over roads and rugged terrain for three days, we came to a consensus in less than five minutes,” MotorTrend admitted while declaring the F-150 Tremor as superior to its competition. “The Tremor is the complete package, moving effortlessly between pavement and rugged terrain. Whether you’re headed for the trails or into the city, the F-150 Tremor is the best truck in this test for the task.”
