Though new vehicles are getting more difficult to tune thanks to encryption designed to thwart hackers, the aftermarket continues to churn out these types of upgrades for all sorts of vehicles, including the Ford Maverick compact pickup and Ford Bronco Sport crossover, to name just a couple. As Ford Authority reported last week, the Bronco Sport just received some new tuning options from Cobb Tuning, in fact, and now, that same company has released products to support the 2023 Ford Maverick, too.
These new tunes from Cobb are compatible with both the 2023 Ford Maverick and Maverick Tremor, though only models equipped with the turbocharged Ford 2.0L I-4 EcoBoost engine. These tunes come loaded on Cobb’s Accessport device, which plugs right in and makes the act of unlocking some extra power about as easy and quick as it can possibly get.
The new tuner comes loaded with a variety of calibrations designed to work with either 91 or 93-octane gas, though power gains obviously vary based on which fuel one is using. With 93-octane gas in the tank, owners can enjoy peak gains of 10 horsepower and 15 pound-feet of torque at the wheels, though even 91-octane offers up some sort of improvement. Overall, Cobb says that cheaper gas can result in a 15.4 or 20 percent increase in horsepower and 15.2 or 19.9 percent gain in torque, respectively. Better yet, the Cobb Accessport and Accesstuner Pro custom tuning software are also 50-state emissions legal.
Of course, this package offers more than just power gains – Cobb’s Maverick software also adjusts shift points in a variety of ways, depending on user preference, and offers dynamic pedal control, the ability to adjust the vehicle’s settings when changing tire size, turn off auto stop/start, and activate valet mode. The price for the complete Stage 1 tuning package comes in at $675, making this a relatively affordable way to add some power to one’s compact pickup – as well as tinker around with some of its features, too.
