2024 Ford Mustang Production Has Begun

We had been waiting quite some time for the arrival of the all-new, S650 Ford Mustang prior to its debut last September. The next-generation pony car carries on a tradition that has endured since the mid 1960s, giving customers a good old fashioned V8-powered rear-wheel drive sports car with an available manual transmission – and for now, no electrified powertrain option. Now, sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority that 2024 Ford Mustang production has officially begun at the Flat Rock Assembly plant in Michigan, marking another important milestone in this launch.

2024 Ford Mustang production began today, May 1st, at Flat Rock, just a few weeks after 2023 Mustang production ended. The S550 model enjoyed a pretty long run, with the very first example emerging from the Flat Rock plant back in August 2014, but now, we turn the page to an entirely new era. Pricing for the 2024 Mustang has increased across the board compared to the outgoing model, as Ford Authority reported back in February, while the build and price configurator and order banks for the new model just opened up last month.

The S650 model is designed to appeal to a younger customer while also retaining its existing base, chock full of nifty tech, fancy graphics, and features like Remote Rev and the electronic drift brake. Aside from new styling inside and out, the 2024 Ford Mustang utilizes revised versions of the turbocharged Ford 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost and naturally-aspirated Ford 5.0L V8 Coyote engines, new appearance packages, and the addition of a new range-topping model – the Dark Horse.

In addition to these updates, the redesigned 2024 Ford Mustang also features a host of smaller revisions for the new model year, too. That includes the discontinuation of multiple optional packages – the Coastal Limited Package, Ice White Appearance Package, and Stealth Package. The new pony car also won’t come equipped with AM radio functionality, either. Meanwhile, the 2024 Ford Mustang is gaining a few nifty features, including standard rear parking sensors and mirror-mounted USB ports for Premium-trimmed models.
