2024 Ford Mustang V8 Manual Lineup Hit With Gas Guzzler Tax

The 2024 Ford Mustang marks the dawn of a new generation for the iconic pony car, one that amazingly – given the times we live in – is devoid of any sort of hybrid or all-electric powertrain option. Instead, the Mustang soldiers on with both V8 and manual transmission options, as it always has been and arguably always should be. However, those opting for both of those options will be shelling out a little more money due to the addion of a gas guzzler tax, sources have confirmed to Ford Authority.

2024 Ford Mustang Price Changes
2024 Ford Mustang MSRP May 4 2024 Ford Mustang MSRP February + / – February Price
EcoBoost Fastback $30,920 $30,920 $0
EcoBoost Premium Fastback $36,445 $36,445 $0
EcoBoost Premium Convertible $41,945 $41,945 $0
GT Fastback $42,495 $41,495 +$1000
GT Premium Fastback $47,015 $46,015 +$1000
GT Premium Convertible $52,515 $51,515 +$1000
Dark Horse Fastback $59,270 $57,970 +$1300
Dark Horse Premium $61,895 $60,565 +$1330
Destination $1,595 $1,595 $0

As a result, the 2024 Ford Mustang GT will now cost $1,000 more than previously expected, at least when paired with the six-speed manual transmission. The Dark Horse – also equipped with the naturally-aspirated Ford 5.0L V8 Coyote engine – gets slapped with a $1,300 gas guzzler tax for the regular model, or $1,330 for Premium versions of the range-topping performance variant. Though opting for the 10-speed automatic means buyers won’t have to pay this extra tax, that option also costs $1,595, which nearly makes up the difference.

Though it will cost more than its predecessor, the S650 Mustang is chock full of new technology features designed to make it more appealing to younger customers, while also retaining its existing base of fans. Those updates include a flashy interior with animated sequences and welcome lighting that greets drivers, as well as the new Electronic Drift Brake and Remote Rev features – the latter of which which allows owners to rev up their cars using the key fob
