Biden Admin Nominates Ford Executive To U.S. District Court

Ford has faced its fair share of executive turnover recently, with many of those folks opting to retire amid rapidly changing times. However, others have gone on to serve in other roles with different companies, though one – Ford executive Susan K. DeClercq, who currently serves as the automaker’s Director and Counsel of Special Investigations – is among four federal judicial nominees appointed by the Biden administration for the U.S. District Court.

Prior to accepting her current role at The Blue Oval last year, DeClercq worked in the U.S. Attorney’s office for a total of 18 years. Over the span, she served in multiple leadership roles, including as chief of the civil division. A graduate of the University of Michigan and the Wayne State University School of Law, DeClercq previously worked as a litigation associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate and Meagher & Flom, and as a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Avern Cohn.

Notably, if she’s confirmed, DeClercq would be the the first federal judge of East Asian descent in Michigan. She’s joined in this round of nominees by Judge Loren L. AliKhan, who has served as a judge on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals since 2022. Previously, Judge AliKhan served as Solicitor General for the District of Columbia and Deputy Solicitor General, and she worked in the Supreme Court and Appellate Practice Group at O’Melveny & Myers LLP in Washington, D.C.

Rounding out this latest list of nominees are Judge Julia K. Munley, who has served as a judge on the Court of Common Pleas of Lackawanna County in Pennsylvania’s 45th Judicial District since 2016, as well as Judge Vernon D. Oliver has served as a judge on the Connecticut Superior Court since 2009.
