Ford Abandoned FX4 Max Trademark In U.S. Last Year

Ford Motor Company has abandoned its trademark for FX4 Max in the U.S., Ford Authority has learned.

This trademark was originally filed on September 13th, 2018, with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) under serial number 88116213. The application contained the goods and services description of “motor vehicles, namely, passenger automobiles, trucks, sport utility vehicles, off-road vehicles, and structural parts, fittings, and badges therefor.” It was abandoned on March 14th, 2022.

The Ford Authority Take

When Ford originally filed to trademark FX4 Max, it seemed pretty likely that the automaker was considering using this name to signify a more capable version of the FX4 Off-Road Package, which has been available on a number of Blue Oval pickups for years now. Quite a bit has changed over the past few years, however, and today, FoMoCo offers a wide array of off-road-focused vehicles, trim levels, and optional packages with varying levels of capability.

That includes the Tremor – which debuted on the 2020 Ford Super Duty and was originally slated to be called the FX4 Max. The Tremor package has since made its way to the mid-size Ford Ranger, full-size Ford F-150, and compact Ford Maverick, taking the place of a more capable version of the existing FX4 Off-Road Package offered on those particular vehicles.

Interestingly, Ford did utilize the FX4 Max name on one vehicle – the Ranger – which wears that particular moniker in place of the Tremor badge, albeit with some other differences as well. Based on the Tremor package, the Ranger FX4 Max is equipped with a lifted suspension, Fox shocks, and 32-inch BFGoodrich K02 All-Terrain tires. Additional exterior features include Raptor-style Conquer Grey or Alabaster White paint, a “Ford” script grille, metal tubular side steps, unique 17 inch black alloy wheels, and a full-length rear sports bar.
