Since its launch, the Ford BlueCruise hands-free highway driver assist feature has steadily gained in popularity while also racking up its fair share of accolades. The feature – which is now available via monthly or annual subscription for Ford Mustang Mach-E owners – had been used by customers to cover over 50 million miles as of late February, and hit the 100,000 user mark some time ago. However, in the months since then, BlueCruise has only become more popular as the feature recently hit yet another milestone, according to Ford’s Q1 2023 financials report.
By the conclusion of the first quarter of the year, a grand total of 199,000 vehicles were equipped with BlueCruise – nearly double the number just a few months ago – and those users have traveled more than 70 million miles with the feature engaged since its launch, which represents a healthy 65 percent increase since the conclusion of 2022.
These numbers seem quite likely to continue to grow, particularly as more and more new models launch with BlueCruise compatibility, and FoMoCo just released a 1.2 version update for the feature with a host of improvements as well. The update centers around three main features, starting with Lane Change Assist, which will perform a hands-free lane change when drivers tap the turn signal, while the system can also suggest when changing lanes might be beneficial during slow-moving traffic.
Next up, Predictive Speed Assist automatically adjusts the vehicle’s speed as it approaches sharp curves and helps signal the driver ahead of time when a speed change is about to occur, so they understand why the vehicle is slowing. Finally, In-Lane Repositioning keeps the vehicle in its lane while also shifting its position away from vehicles in adjacent lanes.
