The Ford E-Transit has thus far proven to be a popular entity among commercial customers, to the point where The Blue Oval has been caught a bit off-guard by stronger than expected demand for the all-electric van. WIth the United States Postal Service (USPS) looking to purchase 9,000 units itself, FoMoCo is ramping up E-Transit production with the addition of a third shift at the Kansas City Assembly plant, while the model continues to rack up accolades as well. Now, a few weeks after we saw the very first Ford E-Transit Type A school bus at the 2023 Work Truck Week show in Indianapolis, that model is officially available to order.
The Ford E-Transit school bus conversions are being completed by a company called Collins Bus, which specializes not only in building Type A people haulers, but also Multi-Function School Activity Buses (MFSAB), childcare buses, and electric/alternative fuel buses. The company’s E-Transit conversion is the very first all-electric Type A school bus from a full-line automaker, and comes complete with a 68 kWh high-voltage battery, a narrow body that aids maneuverability, the largest view-out window in the industry to reduce blind spots, a one-piece tubular roof bow design, an eight-year or 100K-mile warranty, a five-year body warranty, and a limited lifetime paint warranty.
“Collins Bus is renowned for its commitment to driver and passenger safety innovation with unparalleled bus structure designs, driver visibility, and driver safety features. Now, with Ford’s E-Transit chassis, this commitment expands to help keep the environment safe with zero-emissions technology,” said Bryce Pfister, Vice President and General Manager, Collins Bus.
“Ford and Collins Bus have a long history working together to provide mobility solutions for school systems, and now, we’re delighted to offer a more sustainable choice for their customers with E-Transit,” said Raj Sarkar, Ford Pro General Manager Product Marketing and Strategy. “For use-cases with condensed routes, the Type A school bus package on E-Transit can be a great zero-emissions solution for student transportation.”
We’ll have more on the E-Transit soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford Transit news and continuous Ford news coverage.
