Ford Kuga PHEV Once Again Segment Leader In April 2023

The Ford Kuga PHEV has long been a popular vehicle in Europe, finishing out 2022 as that region’s best-selling plug-in hybrid and continuing that trend in the first quarter of 2023. As Europe continues to transition to electrified vehicles, the Kuga PHEV’s success continued in April once again, as the plug-in hybrid version of the crossover managed to stay atop the sales charts for yet another month, according to new data from JATO Dynamics.

Last month, the Ford Kuga PHEV recorded 4,055 sales, which represents an 18 percent increase year-over-year. It was also enough to keep the electrified crossover ahead of its competition, a list that consists of the Volvo XC60, Lynk & Co 01, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, BMW X1, Volvo XC40, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Peugeot 3008, and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Meanwhile, the overall new vehicle market in Europe enjoyed a strong month yet again, with total sales coming in at 960,191 – a 16 percent increase compared to April 2022. That makes April the ninth consecutive month European new vehicle sales have increased following a period of decline, which JATO attributes to an improving supply chain and increased inventory. EV sales were also strong last month, representing 13 percent of new vehicle sales overall, an increase of three percentage points year-over-year.

“These results are directly related to the easing of supply chain pressures which has increased the availability of new cars,” said Felipe Munoz, Global Analyst at JATO Dynamics. “On top of this, demand has continued to rise in response to the push from OEMs to widen their EV offering. Tesla and MG fuelled the growth of BEVs last month. Consumers appear to be responding well to wider competitive offers and good deals presented by the two OEMs.”

  1. So Ford Kuga PHEV is selling in Europe. While here in USA, we wait months uneasy that the PHEV Escape has long-delayed delivery. We ordered a PHEV Escape in December 2022. Now five months later, May 2023, we don’t even get real status information from Ford Motor Company. What gives?
