The Ford Maverick has earned its fair share of fans – as well as racked up a long wait list of people looking to buy one – since its launch for the 2022 model year. However, while much of the compact pickup’s appeal comes from its low cost of entry, it seems as if the pickup will also provide owners with a less expensive ownership experience as well, as the Ford Maverick has won a 2023 Five-Year Cost to Own award from Kelley Blue Book, joining the Ford F-150 Lightning and Ford Bronco in that regard.
The Ford Maverick took home top honors in the compact pickup segment with an average five-year cost of ownership that comes in at $31,416, which is $3,306 less than the segment average. To calculate these values, Kelley Blue Book considers insurance, maintenance costs, fuel costs, state fees, and depreciation, the latter of which is one of the biggest expenses new vehicle owners incur, yet not something that many consider when purchasing a vehicle.
KBB calculates depreciation costs using its own residual values, which it uses to calculate total ownership costs for new vehicles by applying a sophisticated valuation methodology along with critical financial data acquired from third-party providers.
“Many car shoppers would be shocked if they understood that cost of ownership can vary in staggering amounts from one vehicle to the next, potentially to the tune of thousands of dollars over time,” said Janice Yoell, senior manager of valuations for Kelley Blue Book. “Paying attention to a vehicle’s cost of ownership is imperative to make a smart purchase decision. For the third year in a row, Toyota and its luxury sibling Lexus take home the top brand prizes for Five-Year Cost to Own in 2023. Both brands feature several models with high residual values – meaning the vehicle holds its value well over time – leading to low vehicle depreciation, which is a key factor in determining cost of ownership.”

5 year? It’s only been around for 2!
It’s a projection and based on the next to nothing depreciation so far, it looks right. Now, where is mine? Still waiting.

Love my Maverick, but would trade it in a minute if I could find the perfect vehicle. That being one that pays me to drive it. Since that’s not possible, the Maverick is as close as I’ll ever get.
Makes sense to me. I’ve been getting 45+. Miles per gallon for over 3000 miles since January 17 2023. My Maverick hybrid lariat cost less to insure than my 2015 Honda crv and my oii change’s are going to be a lot less often!
Where is my maverick I ordered a year ago

Ordered middle of September 2022. Have owned many Fords in my lifetime and have never had to wait this long for delivery. Come on Ford executives. Get the production going. I’m disappointed.
So did I!! Still waiting.🙏🏼
Can’t wait to get my Maverick. Build date is the week of 12 June.
