Still racking up awards years after its debut, the Ford Puma has also been a steady presence on Europe’s sales charts, finishing out 2022 as one of that region’s top 20 best-selling vehicles, a trend that continued in Q1 of 2023. Now, JATO Dynamics has acquired the numbers for the month of April, and they reveal that the Ford Puma was once again among the top 25 best-selling new vehicles in Europe last month, too.
On that particular list, the Ford Puma ranked 13th by recording 11,655 sales in April, which was actually an eight percent decrease year-over-year. Regardless, this places the Puma behind only the Dacia Sandero, Volkswagen T-Roc, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, Renault Clio, Peugeot 208, Fiat/Abarth 500, Toyota Yaris Cross, Volkswagen Golf, Dacia Duster, Skoda Octavia, Kia Sportage, and Hyundai Tucson, as well as ahead of the Renault Captur, Volkswagen Tiguan, Peugeot 2008, Tesla Model Y, Tovota Yaris, Audi A3, Volkswagen Polo, Peugeot 3008, Ford Kuaa, Nissan Oashaai, Mini Hatch, and Fiat Panda.
Meanwhile, the overall new vehicle market in Europe enjoyed a strong month yet again, with total sales coming in at 960,191 – a 16 percent increase compared to April 2022. That makes April the ninth consecutive month European new vehicle sales have increased following a period of decline, which JATO attributes to an improving supply chain and increased inventory. EV sales were also strong last month, representing 13 percent of new vehicle sales overall, an increase of three percentage points year-over-year.
“These results are directly related to the easing of supply chain pressures which has increased the availability of new cars,” said Felipe Munoz, Global Analyst at JATO Dynamics. “On top of this, demand has continued to rise in response to the push from OEMs to widen their EV offering. Tesla and MG fuelled the growth of BEVs last month. Consumers appear to be responding well to wider competitive offers and good deals presented by the two OEMs.”
