The Ford Authority Take
In addition to constantly adding towing technology features to its trucks like Trailer Reverse Guidance and Ford Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, The Blue Oval has also filed its fair share of patents outlining new ideas in this particular field as well, including one for a vehicular remote control system and a retractable drop leg trailer assist system. Now, this newly filed patent keeps that trend going by introducing an idea for a boat launching management system that could be offered in future Ford trucks, too.
Each and every summer, those of us that spend any amount of time at local bodies of water are bound to see at least one person struggling to launch their boat. In some cases, this has led to a total disaster, with the vehicle towing the boat winding up submerged in water as well, which is obviously not ideal. However, this patent doesn’t necessarily make that task easier, though it does provide users with locations where they might be able to launch boats.
This system would be capable of reading map data to determine where the vehicle and its boat are located, as well as determine whether or not the boat is preparing to be launched or retrieved from the water, then provide nearby locations where they could launch their boat, based on data gathered from vehicles that have already done so, in addition to map data. It’s simple yet useful feature that could very well make it to production, given how difficult it can be to find launch sites, particularly in areas that one may not be familiar with, geographically speaking.
