Aside from begin spotted by Ford Authority on multiple occasions, the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma – a rival to the Ford Ranger – has also been teased several times by the automaker itself, revealing that the redesigned fourth-generation mid-size pickup will be available with a manual transmission, while the off-road-focused TRD Pro will utilize Fox shocks and a hybrid powertrain. A recent leak may very well have already completely revealed the TRD Pro, and it will be joined by the brand new overland-focused 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter, which was spotted by Ford Authority in prototype form last week. Now, Ford Authority has come across yet another 2024 Tacoma, but this time, it’s being benchmarked against the current-gen Ford Ranger XLT.
As we can see in these photos, it appears that Toyota is benchmarking the Ranger against the 2024 Tundra specifically in terms of towing, as each is pulling a trailer. The Ranger is capable of towing up to 7,500 pounds – a solid figure that exceeds he current-generation Tacoma’s max towing capacity of 6,800 pounds.
It’s unclear what powertrains will be available in the redesigned 2024 Tacoma, but the mid-size pickup is expected to offer the turbocharged 2.4L iForce Max engine in some guises, which is rated to produce 340 combined horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque in the higher-spec Toyota Crown Platinum. The pickup will, as previously mentioned, be available with a manual transmission, or a six-speed automatic as an option.
While the new Tacoma is set to be revealed on May 19th, the also-new-for-2024 Ranger made its official debut last week, at least in North American spec. Aside from new exterior and interior styling and the addition of several tech features, the new Ranger is available with the twin-turbocharged Ford 2.7L V6 EcoBoost engine as an option, which generates 315 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.
We’ll have more on everything Ford’s competition is up to soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Ranger news and ongoing Ford news coverage.

Do a better job trying to hide location. You blocked the i94 sign, but anyone familiar withe area knows its Willis road and Platt. Should also cover the Willis sign on the light pole.
Also noticed based on the trailer towing angles, they don’t know how to balance a trailer…..Ranger is pitched back, Tacoma pitched forward. Not good for realistic towing nor tougne weight…..just saying….
Ranger is out pulling Tacoma & Tundra by looks of the picture. The current gen Ranger pulls /hauls very well.. i can only imagine w/ optional gen2 – 2.7L GTDI V6. I will be ordering a ’24 Ranger Tremor or Raptor. 💯
hope the quality is better than the new tundra!
