Vaughn Gittin Jr. – professional racer and founder/owner of RTR Vehicles – has already spent his fair share of time behind the wheel of the all-new 2024 Ford Mustang, and even had a hand in developing the car’s electronic drift brake feature, which makes it easier to get sideways in the next-generation pony car. Of course, Gittin Jr. is also making a triumphant return to pro drifting competition behind the wheel of the brand new Mustang-based Spec 5-FD Formula Drift racer following a one-year hiatus, all of which makes him more than qualified to teach moms how to drive the 2024 Ford Mustang – just in time for Mother’s Day.
Of course, the professional fun haver that is Vaughn Gittin Jr. had to invite his own mother Dawn for this driving lesson, as well as Mustang chief engineer Laurie Transou, who is accompanied by her daughter Claire. Aside from teaching each of them how to drive in a rather spirited manner, the point of this exercise is how easy the Mustang’s features make it to do just that.
That includes launch control – which takes just three presses on the screen to activate – as well as the electronic drift brake, Performance Electronic Braking feature, and electronic line lock. After a quick lesson on how these features work, the mommas in the group are able to head out on the track and easily replicate the sorts of things that took Gittin Jr. years to master. However, perhaps more importantly, it’s also a great bonding moment for these two families as well.
“One of the greatest joys of motherhood is teaching our children, sharing new experiences with them and watching them grow,” Transou said. “Mustang has the ability to make family bonds stronger by delivering fun experiences families can have together. Mustang has brought Vaughn together with his mom and me together with my daughter for an empowering and incredibly fun day!”
