Long considered a disposable method of transportation, the Ford Explorer has been gaining steam in the collector vehicle market as of late, with several nice examples popping up for sale at online auctions. That list includes a pair of low-mile 1995 models – an XLT and a luxurious Eddie Bauer – and now, it continues to grow with the addition of this well-preserved 1999 Ford Explorer XLT that’s currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer.
This 1999 Ford Explorer XLT is yet another gem of a find that has lived its entire life with one owner after being purchased new from Tri Ford of Highland, Illinois, and has just 58k original miles showing on the odometer. It’s finished in the classic Blue Oval hue dubbed Oxford White with red and gold side pinstriping, and remains very much original on the outside with nothing more than some typical scratches and chips on the front end.
That theme continues inside the cabin, where this pristine 1999 Ford Explorer features Medium Prairie Tan cloth seats that look essentially like brand new. It’s well-equipped with plenty of amenities as well, a list that includes things like a power driver’s seat, air conditioning, cruise control, rear climate and audio controls, power everything, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an AM/FM/CD/cassette stereo.
This particular Explorer is powered by the naturally-aspirated Ford 5.0L V8, which was factory rated to produce 215 horsepower and 288 pound-feet of torque, flowing to either the rear or all four wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. In excellent condition with a pristine history, this 1999 Explorer is certainly one of the nicer examples of its breed that we’ve come across in some time, though given current trends, it certainly isn’t likely to be the last.
