There have been many special and rare pony cars throughout the history of the Ford Mustang, but looking at the Fox Body generation, it’s hard to top the venerable 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra. The penultimate example of this generation (aside from the Cobra R, at least), we’ve seen these cars sell for huge money at auction in the past, with prices seemingly set to continue to rise for the foreseeable future. That will be once again put to the test, as this very nice 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra has surfaced for sale at Bring a Trailer.
With just 2,300 miles showing on the odometer, there isn’t much not to like about this stellar 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra, which remained in the same family until 2020, when it was acquired by the seller. There aren’t many bones to pick here either, as the original Vibrant Red Clearcoat shines like new, with no flaws to note on the car’s unique bodywork and 17-inch aluminum wheels, which are wrapped with 245/45 Goodyear Eagle ZR45 tires.
The same goes for the Opal Gray interior, which also looks factory fresh and is filled with amenities such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, front sport seats with power lumbar support, a cassette stereo, air conditioning, and power windows, door locks, and mirrors. Underneath, all 1993 SVT Cobra models came equipped with custom-valved Tokico shocks and struts, revised springs, and beefier and sway bars.
Power comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 5.0L V8 mated to a BorgWarner T5 five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok rear axle, which was originally rated to produce 235 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque thanks to upgrades including a Cobra-specific upper intake manifold and camshaft, a 65mm throttle body, GT40 cast-iron cylinder heads, and aluminum roller rockers. In superb condition, the only flaw this particular car presents is a mileage discrepancy, which may very well affect bidding, but it remains to be seen by how much.
