Ford’s Special Vehicles Team (SVT) created some truly special rides over its time in operation – including the Ford Mustang SVT Cobra and Ford F-150 SVT Lightning – but there were some lesser-known models that emerged from the automaker’s high-performance vehicle division, too. One of those is the Ford SVT Contour, an ultra-rare, more potent version of the now-defunct sedan. In recent months, we’ve seen a pair of these special machines pop up for sale, including a 1999 model and a very nice 2000 example, and now, we have perhaps an even nicer one to share – this immaculate 16k-mile 2000 Ford SVT Contour up for grabs at Bring a Trailer.
This particular 2000 Ford SVT Contour is number 364 of just 2,150 produced for this model year, and it might just be the nicest one left. It isn’t perfect, however, as the sporty sedan is showing some paint blemishes and has had its front passenger-side fender replaced, but there’s nothing alarming here that’s out of the ordinary for a vehicle that’s now nearly a quarter-century old.
The seller did perform some modifications to this particular SVT Contour, however, including the addition of 17-inch Enkei Arashi wheels wrapped with 215/45 Toyo Proxes FZ4 tires, along with Eibach lowering springs – though the original springs and wheels are included with the sale. Otherwise, this is just a nice, clean example of a 2000 Ford SVT Contour with a pristine Medium Prairie Tan leather interior, and plenty of welcome amenities such as power accessories, sport seats, and a sunroof.
Power for the SVT Contour comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 2.5L V6 Duratec engine, which in this guise was factory-rated to produce 200 horsepower and 169 pound-feet of torque. This example has received a handful of modifications including a new exhaust and air filter, while that power flows to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. While it may never quite garner the collector interest that vehicles like the Cobra and Lightning enjoy, the SVT Contour is certainly a cool piece of Blue Oval history, and a rather rare one at that.

Who parked a contour 20 some years ago thinking they had a gold mine that was going to appreciate?
