2023 Ford Explorer Production Update Deletes Two Colors

All-new for the 2020 model year, the current-generation Ford Explorer is set to receive a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year, as Ford Authority previously reported. In the meantime, the 2023 Ford Explorer has already received a small handful of minor updates, though it seems as if those aren’t finished quite yet. Rather, sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority that the crossover is deleting two colors from its available exterior palette.

Those colors are Atlas Blue Metallic and Jewel Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat. Atlas Blue was formerly a no-cost option on Base, XLT, ST-Line, Limited, and ST trims, while Jewel Red was an extra cost option for XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum models. The 2023 Ford Explorer build and price page has already been updated to reflect this change, though it’s worth noting that customers interested in a blue or red model can still opt for Stone Blue Metallic or Rapid Red Metallic.

Aside from this update, the 2023 Ford Explorer carries on mostly unchanged, aside from removal options for the SecuriCode entry keypad – which may be deleted from future models due to ongoing supplier constraints – and the hands-free liftgate, which has been dropped from the 2023 lineup altogether.

As Ford Authority reported last October, the 2024 Ford Explorer is set to receive a refresh for the new model year, which should introduce some more significant updates to the crossover’s exterior and interior styling, as well as its tech features. To date, Ford Authority has spotted a handful of 2024 Explorer prototypes out testing, a list that includes the the high-performance ST and the off-road-focused Timberline, as well as the model’s interior – which features an updated digital instrument cluster and a new, horizontally-oriented infotainment screen.

  1. Those are the only 2 colors I like. I also won’t have a utility vehicle without a foot-activated liftgate release or SecureCode. I’ll keep my existing vehicles.

  2. When will the 2024 Explorer reveal take place? It’s already June and order banks should be opening soon but all we get are teases and glimpses of spy shots. Ford desperately needs a home run with the new Explorer after the crap show the 2020 rollout was.

  3. They need more color choices not less, there are too many white, silver, gray and black vehicles now!

  4. When are you going to report on the current Stop/Hold recall of all 2023 Explorers with a 360* camera?

    1. Thank you for asking that question! Was on the way to get mine when the recall hit. Got to be some really upset dealers sitting out there with $$$$ of unsellable inventory. Not even sure I want one now – what a mess!
