Following its partnership agreement with Ford back in 2019, Volkswagen is going all-in on EVs, at least in Europe, where it plans to stop selling ICE vehicles by 2035 with an eye toward dominating that particular market. Part of that plan involves reviving the legendary Scout brand with a variety of all-electric vehicles including a possible Ford Bronco competitor, as well as a pickup, which will take the place of a Volkswagen EV pickup, at least in the short term. Now, VW has teased the forthcoming Scout EV pickup and SUV in a rather interesting manner – via its 2023 Capital Markets Day presentation.
VW slid a teaser pic of the forthcoming Scout EV pickup and SUV right in with its many slides that comprised this recent presentation, potentially previewing what each will look like in production form. As expected, both feature upright, boxy styling that’s reminiscent of classic off-road-focused SUVs like the Bronco and the original International Harvester Scout, which debuted way back in 1961, a few years before the Bronco arrived in 1966.
Otherwise, details regarding the forthcoming Scout revival remain somewhat scant, save for the fact that both will ride on dedicated platforms and utilize all-electric power exclusively, with a focus toward off-road capability and style. Scott Keogh, the former President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, has been named President and CEO of Scout, which will operate as an independent company in the U.S.
Volkswagen reportedly plans on selling upwards of 250,000 Scout models per year when production begins in 2026, reviving a historic name in the automotive world that hasn’t been seen since production of the last-gen Scout ended in 1980. As Ford Authority reported back in May of 2021, Jim Farley also previously hinted that an all-electric version of the Bronco could be in the works, which would revive this ages-old rivalry in a more direct manner if it comes to fruition, too.
We’ll have more on Scout soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for around-the-clock Ford news coverage.

Any other old truckers out there who still remember when IHC products were known as ‘corn binders’? And Scouts were fairly tough but very ugly!!
Yep, my dad, grandfather and uncles drove them for years. My dad drove one until the rear brake drum broke, it had worn that far. Still remember the roar of the fan when my uncle would come over, was a bit of a lead foot.
