Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a cargo retention frame that may be used on future Ford pickups, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on March 9th, 2021, published on May 30th, 2023, and assigned serial number 11661121.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed quite a few pickup storage-related patents in recent months, including one for a modular storage system, cargo modules, and a new type of cargo management system, to name just a few. Now, this newly filed patent keeps that trend going by outlining an idea for a cargo retention frame that may be used on future Ford pickups.
This particular patent aims to add more cargo carrying flexibility to the bed of future Ford pickups by adding a cargo retention frame to the inside portion of the bed, in the rear near the tailgate. The frame is able to lock in and out of place and is adjustable, so it can be tailored to hold onto all sorts of cargo, no matter what shape or size it might be.
The beauty of this idea lies in its simplicity – the cargo retention frame would simply fold out of the way when it’s not in use, taking up zero space in the process. Then, when the need to hold onto something presents itself, the owner could simply unlock the frame, lift it up, and then adjust it to fit tightly around the object, holding it securely in place.
As such, this idea seems like a pretty easy and inexpensive way to make carrying smaller objects quite a bit easier and more convenient, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see it show up in future Ford pickups as a result.

I am thinking, why is Ford’s front grille and headlight set beginning to look somewhat like the Chevrolet’s front grille side and headlight set up?And the Ford Expedition somewhat looks almost like the GM’s Chevy Suburban?Ford designers have somewhat seem to take that bar across grille like, that Chevy has across their front grille along with the double lights on top of one another too.As well as that chrome bar across the back trunk lid of the Ford Fusion that Chevy or GM had on like the Chevy Impala before or first?
