The 1993 Ford Explorer from the original Jurassic Park movie is one of the most iconic big screen vehicles in history, one that’s inspired the creation of numerous replicas from fans over the years, as well as a pair of limited-edition shoes, to boot. Fans of the movie and the Jurassic Park Ford Explorer also got a special, premium die-cast replica from the Matchbox Collectors Series last year, and now, that same movie-famous vehicle is part of an all-new crowdfunded set via Mattel Creations.
With the original Jurassic Park celebrating its 30th anniversary, this new “Jurassic World Hammond Collection The Gates” set contains a rather comprehensive list of goodies including the actual motorized gate leading into the park depicted in the movie and the Jurassic Park Ford Explorer #5, a post-electrocution Tim figure and enclosure fences, the Hammond Collection “Buck” T-Rex featured in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and a Lex figure and a goat with a removable hind leg.
Each of these pieces its part of its own individual crowdfunding project, which is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising money from a large number of people. Mattel Creations is aiming to secure $250 from at least 5,000 people, with each piece being “unlocked” at a specific point. The gates and Explorer will be available once 5,000 people opt in, followed by the Tim figure and fences at 6,000, the T-Rex at 8,000, and the Lex figure and goat at 10,000.
These items are designed to be authentic collector-grade pieces, and the Explorer even features rubber tires and some enhanced detailing. However, the crowdfunding campaign only runs now through July 27th, so those interested in securing these cool movie collectibles only have one month to throw their financial support behind the project.
