NASCAR Ford Teams Collectively Lead One Lap At Sonoma 2023: Video

The NASCAR Ford racers showed some speed during the Cup Series race at Sonoma on June 11th, 2023, but it wasn’t enough to take control of the field for more than a single lap during the event, while Chevy and Toyota racers traded the lead back and forth for the rest of the race.

Michael McDowell’s No. 34 Ford Mustang was the only Blue Oval racer to lead during Sunday’s race, taking control during a pit stop cycle and surrendering the top spot when he had to pit himself.

Despite the disappointing lack of laps led, a handful of NASCAR Ford teams crossed the line within the top 10. Joey Logano, driver of the No. 22 Mustang, finished third, followed by Chris Buescher’s No. 17 Mustang in fourth and McDowell’s No. 34 Mustang in seventh.

Meanwhile, Ryan Blaney showed some promise in the No. 12 NASCAR Ford, but a series of late-race incidents relegated him to a 31st-place finish. Zane Smith, driving the No. 38 Mustang part-time, unfortunately lost a wheel on Lap 50, and finished 34th.

Meanwhile, up front, the No. 19 Toyota TRD Camry of Martin Truex Jr. outran the No. 8 Chevy Camaro ZL1 of Kyle Busch for his second win of the 2023 season, and his fourth overall at Sonoma.

  1. What is wrong with Harrison Burton driving the Wood Brother’s 21? They are so slow every race.

    1. That team hasn’t been competitive in decades

  2. Just like their retail Ford models the competition engineers have once again missed the mark as the Nascar Fords are simply not competitive even after they were given a chance at a redesign for this year.
