A refresh is on deck for the 2024 Ford Explorer line. Ford Authority has spotted several prototypes undergoing testing, another giving us a look at its interior, and another Explorer ST prototype out and about without any camo at all. Now, our photographers have spotted yet another model out and about, this time an Explorer in Platinum trim without any wraps or coverings.
Outside, the 2024 Ford Explorer Platinum features a restyled front fascia with a bold grille treatment featuring striking chrome accents. It also has larger grille openings and updated headlights featuring a new lighting element tracing the underside of the assemblies, adding a point of interest to the otherwise slim design.
The side of the 2024 Ford Explorer, meanwhile, doesn’t feature any changes over its 2023 model year predecessor. However, moving around to the rear of the crossover, a set of redesigned taillights can be found, with the innermost corners extending well into the liftgate. The gradient of the taillights fade out toward the “Explorer” script on the liftgate, a deviation from the simple, self-contained taillights found on the current model.
As for what sets the 2024 Ford Explorer Platinum apart from the rest of the lineup, this trim features things like dual or quad exhaust tips finished in chrome, depending on whether it’s outfitted with the 3.3L V6 hybrid powertrain or the 3.0L V6 EcoBoost engine. LED headlamps can be found out front, while Premium Silver painted skid plates protect the vehicle’s undercarriage out front and out back. Meanwhile, Satin Aluminum door handles adorn the doors, carried through to the lower bodyside cladding insert.
As for what’s in store inside, the 2024 Explorer will also get a restyled cockpit with new infotainment screens. The Platinum trim will gain a larger, horizontally oriented screen, while other upgrades will likely include 5G modem connectivity and Ford BlueCruise, the automaker’s advanced hands-free driver assistance system.
We’ll have more on the 2024 Ford Explorer soon, so subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford Explorer news and for comprehensive Ford news coverage.

What is with these butt ugly grills. Come on Ford you can do better than that, my six year old grandson could draw a better grill than that.
How did they manage to make the refresh look worse than the previous one.
Unfortunately Ford can’t seem to design its way out of the mesh-mouth look.
The honeycomb grille is beyond horrendous.
Front grille design is ugly. I would order a 2024 Explorer Platinum with the 2023 front grille and headlights. Hopefully, interior quality is better. What happen to the dual exhaust tips?
Ugly front. I think the Mazda CX90 will take many customers from this design. Ford is starting to be like Audi and Lexus…giant ugly front designs.
Not a fan of this grille, but it’s one trim level and just my opinion. You can’t handle choices? Everybody flip out. It’s always the peanut gallery who had no intent of buying any SUV in the near future that are besides themselves.
Love this grill. Strong and without pretense. Adds strength to an already masculine looking stance. Have a 22 xlt, and this is a better look.
I have 2016 Explorer XLT with the Raptor Ford grill and looks great.
I miss when Ford’s grille design was like what was on the Fusion and refreshed Edge.
Must have brought the designer out of retirement that pinned the amc pacer for that grille….
Why all the cheap black plastic cladding. The Platinum and ST trims need to have body colored fenders and bumpers its a way more premium look. Mazda CX-90 take a look
