2024 Ford Maverick Drops Manual Sliding Rear Window

Now entering its third model year of production, the 2024 Ford Maverick is set to receive a few notable changes, including a rather big one – the hybrid will no longer represent the base powerplant in the lineup, as Ford Authority reported earlier this month. With demand still outstripping supply, many 2023 Maverick orders also figure to be pushed to the 2024 model year as The Blue Oval tries to ramp up production to even things out. In the meantime, the 2024 Ford Maverick is dropping select features while also getting more expensive for the new model year, with the latest omission being the manual sliding rear window, sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority.

The 2024 Ford Maverick will not come equipped with the manual sliding rear window, a feature that was optional on the XL and XLT trims for 2023. However, the power sliding rear window will still be part of the lineup, as it will come as standard equipment on the Lariat trim, as was the case with the 2023 model year.

Aside from this change, the 2024 Ford Maverick Tremor Off-Road Package gains new decals for the hood and door, while the optional Tremor Off-Road Appearance Package has been deleted, as has the SecuriCode keypad across the entire lineup. The Lariat gains a bevy of standard equipment including the Lariat Luxury Package, the Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist Package, the spray-in bedliner, and black-painted side mirror caps. Late last month, Ford Authority spotted a pair of lowered Maverick pickups with manufacturer plates that seem to hint at a possible street performance variant, too.

As Ford Authority reported back in April, 2024 Maverick order banks are scheduled to open up on July 17th, 2023. Production of the 2024 Maverick is also expected to begin at the Hermosillo Assembly plant in Mexico on October 16th, 2023, though as always, these dates are subject to change

  1. Bean counters ruin everything. Maverick was a great start that made non Ford owners excited. Dealer markups, slow production and just a lack of improvements will kill this little truck. Very sad. Ford had a winner. Toyota will soon take it away

  2. This is just a shame; When I bought my maverick a year ago, I was taken aback by the options Ford had available on this “Economy, budget truck”. I’ve been surprised by the get go that the maverick has the keypad option factory when the ranger only had an adhesive, dealer installed option. Additionally, the maverick initially came with standard digital temp displays on the climate control knobs as well as ambient lighting standard in the center console/dash area. All of these were really nice perks at the time and have since all been removed from all options. It’s like Ford didn’t have confidence in the Maverick when first released so they were throwing all these unique options to it to get buyers in the door. Now they can’t keep up so they are making the proposition pretty unattractive. It’s a shame that it’s no longer what it was, because I sure love my truck and probably wouldn’t buy a new one since they have removed so much of what I think gives mine character

    1. We have an XLT Maverick 2023 model on order. We have been advised to go into the dealer on the 17th to see was else is happening. Several colours are being omitted including the colour we ordered including the manual rear window. We have been willing to wait for delivery but the fun of owning one is being taken away with elimination of so many features. Looks like the minimum cost is not showing enough profit in the retail end of. It’s not our fault that they messed up. Thanks for allowing my comment.

  3. I know a lot of people are complaining but this truck will not go away and though a few people will migrate toward other options, like Toyota, this will still be a popular truck. It’s still priced lower than any out there and the fact that they have more orders than trucks that they can produce shows that this truck will be around for along time. I know it sucks that they are raising the price and pulling options but ultimately this will not matter to the masses. At this point I feel very fortunate to have been able to get a 2022. I think I was quite literally one of the last orders. I ordered the first month the banks opened in 2021 and got my truck in December 2022. I know the frustrations, having to wait 18 months. Hang in there y’all.

  4. Just got my base XL with the 2.0 EcoBoost yesterday. The only things I added to base is a full sized spare, and the trailer hitch receiver with 4 prong wiring. This truck has so much “luxury” as stock it is incredible, and putting that little engine in sport mode…looks funny, but it will spin those front tires and squeal them like a muscle car. I am super impressed! Worth the wait and I am going to order another one on Monday (July 17).

          1. No, just a different color. I am very pleased with this truck. I could add $4K to the price to get the 4K towing, but that is still not very much towing, and my F250 is really my workhorse. 2K towing can pull a couple of jetskis or a motorcycle trailer, so that is enough for me, for this truck

    2. What two colors will you then have ?

  5. What other product do you buy that the manufacturer works to make it worse over time and then charges you more? I couldn’t think of one either.

  6. As only 35% built will be with the hybrid engine, what has changed from 2023. Oh wait I know more $$$. My 2023 hybrid order is no where in site. I’m passing on 2024 reorder.

  7. I ordered an XLT hybrid Maverick on December 27, 2001, and heard nothing from the dealer for months. No updates, no excuses, no apologies – crickets. So, I ordered my second XLT on April 24, 2003 from a different dealer and still haven’t received a build date or firm price. So far, I have seen exactly one Maverick in the wild, a white stripped-down version with stamped steel wheels. Do these vehicles actually exist, or is Ford just pulling a colossal prank on the public?

    1. Here in the Buffalo New York area there getting pretty common. I’ve probably seen every available color on the road in the past few months not counting the handful of white strippers that a few businesses run as delivery trucks.

  8. I ordered a hybrid Nov 2022. I was patient. Probably a mistake. I transitioned my order to a 2023. I finally complained and now have a build date for the week of July 31, 2023. Lucky, I guess, or I would be transitioned to a 2024. This is the first Ford I’ve bought in 5 decades. I thought this truck might bring me back into the Ford fold as I came from a “Ford only” family. Now I don’t see how I can love this truck when it finally comes to me. I don’t appreciate being lied to. Every Maverick I saw on the road was purchased direct from a dealer, with NO waiting. My wait in line meant nothing to the Ford leadership, who caused the problem in the first place.

  9. This situation is unbelievable. Ordered our Hybrid XLT Maverick last July 2022. . . . Here it is one year later and no word or site of my truck.

There are some around but I refuse to pay 10k – 12k over MSRP for the Maverick. We are sick of the excuses from Ford and the lack of communication.

Shame on you Ford Motor Company, the Maverick is a Unicorn!!!!!

With no Maverick in site and the new Toyota Tacoma hybrid appears late 2023 or early 2024 I feel that is where our money will go.

    Tired of waiting…….

  10. I got my Lariat package Maverick a month ago and I love, love, love it! I know it is frustrating for those of you who are still waiting, but production is getting better and I think Ford just underestimated the demand and have been playing catch up ever since.

  11. I love my 23 XL hybrid, but that wait was absolutely insane, and caused me a LOT of inconveniences. Ordered October 2021, took delivery late February 2023. The pricing changes they’re doing now would’ve stopped me from ordering. Hopefully at least the 24s will continue to improve some of the issues like the 23 did over the 22. Great little trucks, but be prepared for a long wait.

  12. Ford is intentionally slowing production of these vehicles because they would rather rape you on an F150/250/350. They earn far less profit on the Maverick. They need big money to throw down the drain on their Mach-e and Lightning. SMH.
