2024 Ford Police Interceptor Utility Will Use 2023 Front End

Over the past few months, Ford Authority has spotted a variety of 2024 Ford Explorer prototypes out and about – many of them not sporting any type of camouflage or disguise on the outside – giving us a good look at the refreshed crossover’s exterior and interior updates. That list includes the high-performance ST, the luxurious Platinum, the brand new Active, and some shots of the 2024 Explorer’s revised interior, which will boast a larger touchscreen, among other updates. However, aside from likely not offering the same front LED light bar as its Chinese counterpart, the 2024 Explorer Timberline will feature the same front end design as the current model – and that’s also the case with the 2024 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor Utility, sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority.

2024 Ford Explorer ST-Line

This means that the 2024 Ford Police Interceptor Utility will continue to utilize the existing model’s headlights, grille, bumpers, and everything else, but interestingly enough, that won’t be true of the rear portion of the crossover built specifically for law enforcement use. Rather, it will feature the same new liftgate that we’ve already seen on other prototypes. However, the police model’s tail lights will differ from the rest of the 2024 Explorer range. Rather than featuring a C-shaped configuration that runs into the liftgate, the Explorer Police Interceptor Utility will forego the part of the tail lights within the liftgate.

2024 Explorer Platinum

The Ford Police Interceptor Utility has long been a favorite among police departments in the U.S., and remains a strong seller for The Blue Oval, in spite of some recent issues, most notably, the fact that supply chain shortages have led to long wait times for the crime-fighting crossover. In fact, more than one department has canceled orders for the Police Interceptor Utility recently for this very reason.

2024 Ford Explorer ST

Meanwhile, the 2024 Ford Explorer lineup is set to receive a number of updates as part of its forthcoming refresh, including the aforementioned revised front end design, along with a redesigned liftgate that seemingly drew inspiration from its Chinese counterpart and the previous generation Explorer. Aside from a few updates to its exterior, the crossover is also expected to receive an all-new center stack with Sync 4 or the long-awaited Google infotainment system, while BlueCruise will likely become available along with the refresh, too.
