Hertz and Shelby have long enjoyed a prosperous relationship, churning out a variety of “Rent-a-Racer” vehicles over the past several decades. That partnership continued with the introduction of the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H a few years ago, a model that was built in very limited quantities, which is precisely why we rarely see them pop up for sale today. However, this particular 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H just surfaced for sale at Bring a Trailer, and it has a mere 206 original miles showing on the odometer.
This 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H is number 167 of the mere 171 examples that were built in total, each designed to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Rent-a-Racer program. All 171 units were finished in Shadow Black with gold stripes, along with unique Shelby bodywork consisting of a vented polycarbonate hood, a mesh grille, GT-H puddle lights, a carbon-fiber front splitter, side skirts, and a rear spoiler.
Inside the cabin, one will find plenty of amenities including heated, cooled, and power-adjustable front Ebony bucket seats with gold stitching, along with a numbered plaque, GT-H floor mats, illuminated sill plates, blind-spot monitoring, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, a Shaker audio system, and an eight-inch touchscreen display running Sync 3.
Mechanically speaking, the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H is equipped with the Ford Racing Handling Package – which adds lowering springs, specific dampers, and both front and rear anti-roll bars – along with 19-inch black aluminum wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 5.0L V8 Coyote engine, rated to produce 435 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, which flows to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential with 3.55 gears.
Given how particularly rare these vehicles are – coupled with their historical prominence – it’s no surprise this incredibly low-mile example has already been bid up to the $60k mark as of this writing, and there are three days left to go before the hammer falls, giving it a strong opportunity to rake in solid money.
