Ford Ranger Raptor Beats Amarok, Hilux In Drag Races: Video

The all-new, next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor officially debuted way back in February 2022, but wasn’t revealed for the North American market until this past May. The newest version of the high-performance, off-road-focused pickup comes packing the twin-turbocharged Ford 3.0L V6 EcoBoost underhood, though its output does vary by region. Regardless, with some fancy aero technology and plenty of juice on tap, the new Ford Ranger Raptor figures to be pretty quick in a straight line – just like its big brother, the Ford F-150 Raptor – and that much is quite evident in this recent video from CarWow.

In this video, CarWow pits the new Ford Ranger Raptor against the Volkswagen Amarok Pan Americana and Toyota Hilux GR in a very interesting drag race. It’s worth noting that while in the U.S., the Ranger Raptor will generate 405 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, that isn’t the case with the European model, which is what we’re seeing here – rather, that version is rated to produce just 292 horsepower and the same 430 pound-feet of torque.

The VW present in this comparison is powered by a turbocharged 3.0L V6 diesel engine, which produces 240 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, while the Hilux GR features a turbocharged 2.8L four-cylinder diesel making a mere 204 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The Toyota is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the Volkswagen and Ford both get a 10-speed automatic.

While the VW and Ford seem a bit close in this comparison on paper, the Ranger Raptor leaps out to an early lead in the first drag race from a dig, while the Amarok is hilariously slow off the line. The Ford Ranger Raptor once again claims victory by a country mile in round two, as well as round three, not to mention the subsequent roll races – proving that the off-road dominator is pretty darn quick on the pavement, too.
