Many of us grew up learning how to drive on go-karts, while many a professional race car driver cut their proverbial teeth on that same type of miniature ride. These days, we routinely see unique and interesting go-karts pop up for sale, giving us a chance to relive those youthful memories, a list that includes a very cool Ford roadster-inspired kart that crossed the auction block back in March. Now, those looking for an interesting, albeit tiny version of the iconic Ford Model T can bid on this go-kart recreation over at Bring a Trailer, too.
This Ford Model T style go-kart is actually pretty vintage itself, having been built by a company called Mini-Kars Inc. – based out of Kansas City, Missouri – in June 1974. It was then used by a Shriners International chapter as a parade car for a number of years before the seller purchased it back in 2020, and now, it’s up for grabs, seeking a new home yet again.
The seller did take the time to do some work to refurbish this cool old Ford Model T inspired go-kart, including giving it a fresh coat of black paint – the only color it should be, of course – along with red pinstriping. That paintwork covers the kart’s fiberglass fenders and running boards, while other notable features include a Ford-branded faux gold radiator, a hood ornament, a folding windshield frame, a wood-stake pickup bed, and a set of red-painted 12-spoke wheels wrapped with Cheng Shin bias-ply tires
Sitting on top of a steel frame equipped with a transverse leaf spring up front, a solid rear axle, and a direct drive transmission, power for this Model T kart comes from a Briggs & Stratton four-stroke single that produces 3.5 horsepower. If nothing else, it’s certainly a cool display piece – not to mention a piece of history that one could take to any number of shows and garner plenty of attention with.
