NASCAR Ford Teams Struggle At Inaugural Chicago Street Race: Video

Despite poor weather, the Cup Series took to the streets of Chicago on July 2nd, 2023, but unfortunately, the race didn’t really go The Blue Oval’s way, as the NASCAR Ford teams struggled to find speed and overcome incident during the event.

Trouble started right off the bat for the NASCAR Ford teams, as in the sixth turn of the first lap, the No. 10 Ford Mustang of Aric Almirola spun out, and a short while later, the No. 6 Mustang of Brad Keselowski was swept into a pileup in the same corner. However, they were able to continue, as their race cars did not suffer any debilitating damage and were able to remove themselves from the tire barrier and drive away.

Throughout the race, the NASCAR Ford teams were nonfactors. In fact, not a single Mustang racer lead a single lap, even when the sanctioning body elected to shorten the race from 100 laps to 75 due to inclement weather and the threat of darkness, as the temporary racetrack was not configured with a lighting setup to facilitate a night race.

That’s not to say The Blue Oval finished poorly – the No. 2 Mustang of Austin Cindric finished sixth, followed by the No. 34 Mustang of Michael McDowell in seventh and the No. 22 Mustang of Joey Logano in eighth.

Meanwhile, Shane van Gisbergen won in the No. 91 Chevy Camaro ZL1 in his first career NASCAR start.

  1. The only way Fird stands a chance of winning is if NASCAR bans Chevy from racing.
Camaro takes 1 thru 5, now that’s what I call domination!

  2. Ford will not win untill Nascar gives them as much HP as Hendrix has. Don’t you see how good the Chevys handle down the straight a ways.
