Pony car enthusiasts have been in luck recently, as several iterations of S197 Mustang models have recently cropped up for sale. A unique, low-mileage 2007 Ford Mustang GT recently found its next owner, while a 2005 Ford Mustang GT in near flawless condition was also offered up for sale earlier this year. Fans in search of a piece of pony car history are now able to snag a piece of Mustang heritage for themselves, as this 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby Turbo prototype is in search of its new home on Bring a Trailer.
This one-of-a-kind white Mustang Shelby Turbo was developed by Shelby American as a performance package to be offered for the 2005 through 2009 model year Mustang GT. This particular vehicle made its debut at SEMA 2009, with intent to drum up interest in the Shelby Turbo Package, which bundled a Turbonetics turbocharger that bolted right up to the 4.6L V8 engine, a short-throw shifter, 18-inch chrome wheels, six-piston Baer front brake calipers, and an upgraded suspension. As for that V8 powerhouse, Shelby rated the upgraded V8 at 550 horsepower.
This particular vehicle, which is finished in Performance White, features a custom Shelby “Deep Draw” hood complete with hood pins, a bar grille, custom rear spoiler and a throaty Borla exhaust system. Shelby Turbo graphics grace that custom hood and quarter panels, and its paint scheme is mostly flawless, aside from minor scuffing on the underside of the front bumper cover. Inside, a Dark Charcoal interior shows no signs of wear and tear, other than scratches on the passenger door panel.
Other goodies that come along with this 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby Turbo prototype include a Shelby Automobiles plaque on the center of the dashboard and hood and Shelby memorabilia. The vehicle has history in Arizona, Texas and Louisiana. At the time of this writing, the high bid is $40,000, with the auction books set to close on September 1st, 2023.
