It’s been about a week since information about the 2024 Ford Bronco lineup first surfaced, as the automaker decided to reveal some of the changes coming to the off-road SUV. With the online configurator now online and order banks opened, even more production changes are coming to light, including perhaps the biggest change of all: the elimination of the base trim. However, buyers in the market for the latest Bronco will find that every example will utilize the 12-inch Sync 4 center touchscreen, since the previously standard eight-inch unit has been put out to pasture as part of the model year changeover.
Aside from the elimination of the bezels that surrounded the eight-inch unit, the standardization of the 12-inch touchscreen doesn’t bring with it any enhanced technological features, except for what Ford calls “conversational voice command recognition” which is the only functional difference between the two screens. Some eight-inch units also come with enhanced voice recognition as part of the Mid Package. In any event, the newly standard Sync 4 screen is still capable of wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 911 Assist, AppLink with app catalog, along with the incorporation of the digital owner’s manual. Prior to this change, the 12-inch unit was bundled into the High Package on Outer Banks, Badlands, and Wildtrak and standard on Everglades and Raptor.
As Ford Authority previously reported, this change is most likely a sign that the 2024 Ford Bronco, along with other vehicles in the automaker’s lineup, are being simplified from a manufacturing perspective to be less complex as the company continues to grapple with quality issues. The Bronco and 2024 Ford F-150 will be part of the company’s effort to boast “best in class” quality by 2025, while other vehicles are expected to be in the top 25 percentile of quality in their respective segments in the same timeframe.
