It seems like only yesterday that the all-new, redesigned, 2023 Ford Super Duty debuted and began shipping to customers, but as is always the case in the automotive world, we’re already looking ahead to the next model year. That means a few small changes are in store for one-half of the best-selling F-Series duo, albeit nothing major. However, the 2024 Ford Super Duty XL and XLT are set to get at least one notable update – the addition of the Onboard Scales and Smart Hitch features – sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority.
The 2024 Ford Super Duty XL and XLT will indeed get The Blue Oval’s Onboard Scales and Smart Hitch features as an available option for the new year. For 2023, the option was only available on Lariat-trimmed pickups and up. These features originally debuted on the 2021 Ford F-150 and are designed to make the act of hauling and towing heavy loads a bit easier by using some advanced technology.
Onboard Scales measure and display the approximate weight of the payload in the truck, while load information is displayed in the center touch screen, on a mobile phone through the FordPass app, or in graphics within the truck’s smart taillamps, which operate like the battery charge indicator on a mobile phone, displaying the percentage of payload capacity by illuminating LEDs arranged in a built-in vertical bar.
Meanwhile, Smart Hitch measures the tongue weight of a trailer being connected to help users distribute the weight of that load correctly. After calculating tongue weight, the feature provides guidance on weight distribution or hitch overloading via the trucks’ infotainment screen, on the FordPass app, or within the smart taillamps. As Ford Authority reported last month, order banks for the 2024 Ford Super Duty are now open, just a few months after deliveries of the 2023 model began in May.
We’ll have more on the 2023 Super Duty soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford F-Series news, Ford Super Duty news, and continuous Ford news coverage.

Funny I ordered my F 350 limited in Feb 2022 a 2022 model. No pickup.Reordered a 2023 model in Nov 2022 still have not got a pickup. Should I order a 2024? Third time the charm? Does Ford give a sh*t?
I ordered a 2023 F-350 Platinum Tremor in November 2022. Still no word on the build date. Well Ford considered it a 2024 model when I receive it? If I order a 2024 will I have to wait until the November 2024 to receive my truck?
Will these scales be on the f-600 trucks? thanks Dennis
I had 30 vehicles in my fleet all Ford trucks all have recalls. I never seen this type of recalls.
I wonder if the dealers will use this feature to deny warranty claims. Seems they could easily prove overloading.
