Last year, Bob Tasca III and the Ford Racing team – otherwise known as Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing – enjoyed quite a bit of success in the 2022 National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) season. Tasca III and his Ford Mustang Funny Car scored their first win of the season at the Sonoma Nationals in the Nitro Funny Car class last July, and followed that up with an overall victory at the NHRA Brainerd Nationals in Minnesota the following month. Now, with the 2023 NHRA season underway, Tasca III continued his winning ways by scoring his second NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series Funny Car Wally at Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, Kansas.
It wasn’t an easy task for the fourth-seeded Tasca III, as he had to hold off the three-seeded Matt Hagan, who managed to cut a better light than the Mustang driver. However, the Blue Oval racer managed to reel Hagan in and ultimately won by a mere eight-hundredths of a second with a 3.885-second pass at 332.26 miles-per-hour. It was a much-needed win for Tasca III after he previously qualified third in Denver, second in Seattle, and first in Sonoma.
“I’ll tell you one thing – it’s an emotional win for me,” Tasca said after the race. “This team has worked so hard all year. Todd Okuhara and Aaron Brooks…I don’t know what to say. They’re incredible guys to race with. For BG, for Ford – so proud. I’m going to the Vegas dealer, Ford dealer meeting, this week and I’m bringing all the Ford dealers and all the Ford fans the trophy.”
After earning his 14th career NHRA Funny Car national victory, Tasca III can now look to add to that total at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals, which takes place this coming weekend – August 17th-20th – at Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota.
