The Ford Authority Take

The slight increase in Ford Edge sales last quarter is encouraging, especially considering the ongoing supplier constraints that include, but are certainly not limited to, the ongoing microchip shortage. Ford continues to navigate a very challenging supply market in order to continue production of its products.

Additionally, Ford Edge in its current form is on its way out. Both the Edge its corporate cousin, the Lincoln Nautilus, were expected to cease production at the Oakville Assembly plant in Canada later this year, though Edge production has now been extended into early 2024. In fact, 2024 Edge production is underway already, but it’s not likely to go on for very long. Both the Edge and the Nautilus are built at the Ford Oakville Assembly Plant for North America.

In 2020, The Blue Oval and the Canadian auto union, Unifor, reached an agreement that will see the facility will produce electric vehicles at the facility starting in 2025. At this time, there is no clear timetable as to when ICE production will cease at Oakville, but a recent announcement about the EV retooling project heavily implies that it will end in Q1 2024.

  • All percent change figures compared to Ford Edge sales in Q2 2022, unless noted otherwise
  • In the United States, there were 77 selling days for Q2 2023 and 77 selling days for Q2 2022

So tired of seeing your website justify bad planning with ford. Call it for what it is. Blame microchips, blame door handles, blame any supplier. No one else has these issues? Why would that be? Edge is the most suv down at -10%, market for SUV is up 25%. Pretty obvious…..

William you’re welcome to get an MBA and do it better yourself. Other vehicles are facing similar declines, it seems like simple fluctuations mixed with a vehicles final model year. $hit happens, settle down or do it better yourself.

Trolls. Just ignore. Gen2 Edge is excellent & selling very well in ’23. Just under 65k vehicles as of Aug. Not surprising! Be sure to grab a new one before they’re gone. I did! Hard to beat em.

I own a 2016 Edge with a V6 engine and absolutely love it. Too bad Ford has gone woke and is phasing out the Edge after 2024 so they can focus on EVs that nobody wants. Bye Ford, I enjoyed being a customer back when you cared about your customers.

Yeah I really wish they would have at least made a hybrid variant of this. Going full EV is just dumb at this point. The market doesn’t want it.

Great time to be dropping it with no direct replacement.

There are replacements! 5 EVs / Hybrids. Model names haven’t been announced yet. I grabbed a new Edge in Jan’23. My 2nd one. Excellent Midsized SUVs. Love em. Top 3 in a crowded class where none are bad. 64k Edges sold as of Aug. On track for 90k in ’23.

Ford is dropping the Edge sales of which are still about 90k per year vs Mach-E’s 40k. Ford’s board needs to drop J. Farley & B. Ford instead. Ford had made the same great decision dropping Fusion whose sales in its last year still topped 200k. The same problem is affecting Ford of Europe whose sales figures have been dropping like a rock. They have droped too many popular models trying to justify transition to EVs that is still years away. Whatever will still be left of FoE will likely be taken over by VW or some Chinese carmaker.

Fusion may return & should ..as only an ICE Hybrid! There’s new Mondeo in Europe that’s very popular. Bring to US w/ standard AWD & Hybrid only model. Will sell well. Tons Fusions on rds for good reason. 👍🏻

Edge has great exterior/interior design among all midsized SUVs. 2 – excellent proven GTDI powertrains that get best MPG’s in class. AWD is standard! Grabbed a new Torch Green ’22 Edge SEL in Feb of this yr. Absolutely adore this SUV. This is my 2nd. Comfort & handling are top notch. Plenty of tech. Top safety pick ’20-23. Can’t go wrong. Other midsized SUVs are nice & also competitive but none seem to have all attributes this latest Edge does. My asvice? Grab a ’23 Edge before they are gone. Sales through end of Aug is 64k units. It will sell 90-95k easily this yr. That’s not shabby among a crowded class of vehicles. Kudos Ford!
