From a segment share standpoint, the RAV4 accounted for 16 percent share, down three percentage points year-over-year, while the CR-V captured 15 percent, up four percentage points. The Rogue’s share increased three percentage points to 11 percent, while the Tucson remained flat at eight percent share, and the Equinox slipped three percentage points for eight percent share. Ford Escape sales accounted for seven percent share, up one percentage point, while the CX-5 and Sportage each gathered six percent, with the latter holding steady and the former losing one percentage point. All other entries accounted for five percent or less.
Overall, the mainstream C-segment crossover bracket expanded 23 percent to 655,239 units, meaning that Ford Escape sales slightly outperformed the segment average.
It is also worth noting that Ford now fields two vehicles in this segment: the Escape and the Bronco Sport. Combining sales of both models gives The Blue Oval 76,962 deliveries, good for approximately 12 percent segment share. While that exceeds the seven percent segment share held by the Escape alone, it still doesn’t surpass the 16 percent share held by the RAV4.

The Ford Authority Take
The increase in Ford Escape sales during Q2 2023 is certainly encouraging, especially considering that production of the crossover fell off slightly in June, with 18,756 rolling off the line at the Louisville Assembly plant. However, the refreshed 2023 Ford Escape seems to have driven sales back into the green this year. Earlier this year, Escape production was severely constrained by a software issue that forced the company to pause production.
As a reminder, the 2023 refresh brought a host of updates to the crossover, including a revamped trim level lineup that now consists of Base, Active, PHEV, ST-Line and Platinum levels. The ST-Line brings a sportier look to the crossover, including a black mesh grille, rear-wing spoiler and monochromatic exterior with matching painted surfaces. The refresh also introduced Sync 4 into the lineup.
So far, the refreshed Escape has proven attractive to new car buyers, particularly the 2023 Ford Escape ST-Line. In fact, the sportier version of the crossover accounted for 40 percent of Ford Escape sales in June 2023.
Additionally, the 2023 Escape PHEV has also drawn people over to The Blue Oval, with nearly half of all Escape PHEV buyers coming from rival automakers.

Comments
Why anyone would buy one of these instead of the sixth place, vastly superior Mazda CX-5, is beyond me.
This 2nd QTR rosy outlook obscures the first half stats, which puts Explorer in 9th place. I think it’s a shame Ford doesn’t put real effort behind the Escape since it’s such a huge category. Luckily, Ford got the Bronco right. What’s telling to me is that Ford is not even part of the Motor Trend comparos for mid-size SUV’s. Last article I read on this category said Ford didn’t have one to loan to Motor Trend. More likely, Ford didn’t want to be humiliated in the comparison, so it stayed home. What a shame!
any one want a used Mavrick most ford dealers on long island NY have them.
I am one of those people who switched from a Honda Accord to the Escape PHEV (though I loved the Accord, needed a small suv now). I test drove the improved CR-V and the Escape. While I liked the CR-V’s improved body design and slightly larger cargo capacity, I found the Escape to have a superior, beautiful infotainment system, and Honda only offered a standard hybrid. When combined with the available tax rebate, it nearly canceled out the extra cost of the battery. So far I’ve loved my Escape PHEV, easily charging it nightly and being able to do all my errands with only electric. Compared to previous Ford’s in my family, I’m truly blown away by all the functionally in the infotainment screen. A few friends I’ve shown it to have been impressed and many, sadly, didn’t even know it was an option – I think that’s the biggest issue.
