It’s important to note that the Expedition was vastly outsold by two GM models spanning four nameplates. GM’s competitors in the segment are the Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban, as well as the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. Meanwhile, Ford treats the Expedition as one model, though the nameplate technically comprises two separate models: the “regular” Expedition and the extended-length Expedition Max. The “regular” Expedition directly rivals the Tahoe and Yukon, while the extended-length Expedition Max goes up against the Suburban and Yukon XL.

Treating the Tahoe and Suburban as a single vehicle (the way Ford treats the Expedition and Expedition Max) gives Chevrolet 45,919 combined deliveries, outselling the combined results of the Expedition and Expedition Max by 43,912 units (see running Chevy Tahoe sales and Chevy Suburban sales).

Meanwhile, treating the Yukon and Yukon XL as a single vehicle (again, mirroring the way Ford treats the Expedition and Expedition Max) gives GMC 22,269 combined deliveries (see running GMC Yukon sales and GMC Yukon XL sales). This combination still outsells the Expedition by 2,262 units.

The Jeep Wagoneer saw its sales shrink 21 percent to 8,075 units, followed by the Nissan Armada, up 104 percent to 5,915 units. The Toyota Sequoia brought up the rear despite a 9,342 percent increase to 5,193 units last quarter.

From a segment share standpoint, the Tahoe claimed 27 percent share, down two percentage points year-over-year. Ford Expedition sales accounted for 19 percent share, up one percentage point, while the Suburban captured 16 percent share, down four percentage points. The Yukon accounted for 12 percent share, down two percentage points, and the Yukon XL stayed flat at nine percent share. The Wagoneer captured eight percent share, down six percentage points, the Armada gained two percentage points for six percent share, and the Sequoia gained five percentage points for five percent share.

The Ford Authority Take

The increase in Ford Expedition sales are certainly encouraging for The Blue Oval as the full-size SUV continues to narrow the gap on the segment-best Tahoe. Easing production and supply chain issues have made it easier for the automaker to produce enough units to satisfy demand.

The Expedition received a modest refresh for the 2022 model year, and it’s worth noting that it soldiers into its 2023 model year without any major changes or updates, aside from feature deletions that are the most direct effects of the aforementioned supplier issues. Subsequently, the 2024 Ford Expedition only features minor changes over its 2023 model year counterpart, but it does gain the optional Excursion Package.

However, greater changes are on the horizon. Ford Authority first spotted a refreshed 2025 Ford Expedition prototype back in May. The forthcoming model will feature redesigned taillights, a set of 24-inch wheels, and an overhauled interior, as evidenced by several prototypes spotted by Ford Authority.

  2. Who ever is responsible for the wheel design on Fords vehicles needs to be fired. I love Fords but Ford has some of the ugliest wheels on the market. Every one of their models should have at least one CHROME or Polished Aluminum Wheel to choose from.

  3. Coyote V8 is needed that would increase sales
