Ford Mustang Sales Outperform Camaro, Tail Challenger In Q2 2023

Ford Mustang sales increased in Brazil, Argentina and Colombia, while decreasing in the United States and Mexico during the second quarter of 2023.

Ford Mustang Sales - Q2 2023 - United States

In the United States, Ford Mustang deliveries totaled 10,760 units in Q2 2023, a decrease of about 12 percent compared to 12,258 units sold in Q2 2022.

In the first six months of the year, Mustang sales decreased about 3 percent to 25,471 units.

Ford Mustang Sales - Q2 2023 - Mexico

In Mexico, Ford Mustang deliveries totaled 72 units in Q2 2023, a decrease of about 68 percent compared to 222 units sold in Q2 2022.

In the first six months of the year, Mustang sales decreased about 56 percent to 173 units.

Ford Mustang Sales - Q2 2023 - Brazil

In Brazil, Ford Mustang deliveries totaled 117 units in Q2 2023, an increase of about 154 percent compared to 46 units sold in Q2 2022.

In the first six months of the year, Mustang sales increased about 65 percent to 218 units.

In Argentina, Ford Mustang deliveries totaled 62 units in Q2 2023, an increase of about 589 percent compared to 9 units sold in Q2 2022.

In the first six months of the year, Mustang sales increased about 160 percent to 109 units.

In Colombia, Ford Mustang deliveries totaled 16 units in Q2 2023, an increase of about 167 percent compared to 6 units sold in Q2 2022.

In the first six months of the year, Mustang sales increased about 81 percent to 29 units.

Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Ford Mustang sales decreased 12 percent to 10,760 units during the second quarter of 2023, placing second in its segment in terms of cumulative sales volume. The Dodge Challenger maintained first place with an 11 percent decrease to 12,904 units, followed by the Mustang in second and the Chevy Camaro in third, with a 110 percent increase to 9,557 units.

From a segment share standpoint, the Mustang accounted for 39 percent, down seven percentage points year-over-year. The segment-leading Challenger gathered 46 percent, down seven percentage points, while the Camaro saw its share expand 15 percentage points to 29 percent. In other words, only the Camaro was able to increase its segment share.

The two-door muscle car segment expanded a modest six percent to 33,221 units, meaning that Ford Mustang sales underperformed the segment average.

The Ford Authority Take

Ford Mustang sales experienced a not-insignificant slide during the second quarter of 2023, which isn’t a surprise as FoMoCo phases out its sixth-generation pony car in favor of the forthcoming seventh-generation model. In fact, the 2023 Ford Mustang was given an extremely limited run, meaning its sales reflect reduced availability of the pony car.

The 2023 Mustang brought a very minor selection of changes and updates to make way for the all-new seventh-generation 2024 Ford Mustang. This model brings extreme changes to the Mustang nameplate, and order banks for the highly anticipated muscle car are already open. Things are on track for the seventh-gen Mustang to be launched in the summer of 2023, shortly after production at the Flat Rock Assembly plant in Michigan wraps up for the 2023 model year.

  1. I’m pleased with my 2022 GT premium convertible The car is just awesome to drive. The only issue I have is with the automatic trunk. It should open all the way up so you don’t get your finger stuck underneath it just love this car. Dave Onufer.

  2. I have a 22 GT Mustang convertible, premium that I just enjoy driving all the time. The only issue is the trunk the automatic trunk should open all the way up so you don’t get your fingers caught under it.

    Ahhhh, David, you’re doing it the wrong way, guy!!!!
    And when closing, close by pushing down from the top…. not pulling from the bottom…
    That’s OK David—- YOU’LL THANK ME LATER!!!!
    Hate the dash in the 24 Stang… it’s FUGLY-TERRIBLE…. and that’s being nice.
    And earlier models of Mustang, all look good no matter the color•••
    In the 2024 Mustang, some colors look downright ugly….I don’t know what it is but the car looks like a cross between a CAMARO and a Hyundi…
    You are ruining the looks of the Mustang if you are going down this avenue….

    And David, keep practicing on that trunk lid…. you’ll get it!!!!

    1. Haha 😂 .., you won’t believe this one! I bought a 2020 C.S. GT Silver and liked it lots but got sick of the colour so I traded it in on a 22 Premium GT White and am so happy with it!!! People think I’m crazy lol… totally agree 💯 on your assessment of the 24 Stang!! Sounds awesome that’s about it lol 😂

  5. Ive owned Mustangs since 1972.
    I loved the S197 ( 05-14). I owned an 05 06 and 13. Then bought a 2020 GT. Just didnt care for the looks or ride. Traded for a Bronco. I just dont care for Mustangs after 2014. Just dont look like Mustangs and the prices are outrageous
