Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a new Pro Power Onboard interface that could be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on September 14th, 2016, published on August 1st, 2023, and assigned serial number 11712980.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford’s Pro Power Onboard generator has thus far proven to be a big hit as well as an emotional feature for some that helped create it, not to mention a feature that has earned its fair share of accolades, too. Soon, Pro Power Onboard is expected to be available in even more Blue Oval models – including the forthcoming North American Ford Explorer EV and the Ford Maverick compact pickup – all while FoMoCo continues to file patents aiming to expand its capability. Now, this newly filed patent keeps that trend going by introducing an idea for a new Pro Power Onboard interface that could be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
The concept here is that future version of Pro Power Onboard could apparently be controlled and monitored by using a new interface located near the plugs in the bed or cargo area of a vehicle – which is different than the current setup, which can only be controlled using the vehicle’s infotainment screen. It’s also possible that such a layout could be used in vehicles that don’t currently offer Pro Power Onboard but do come equipped with power outlets, such as the Ford Ranger and Maverick, however.
The benefits of such a system are fairly apparent – one could presumably operate the Pro Power Onboard feature without having to move between the bed or cargo area to the main cabin of a vehicle, which would be quite convenient, particularly as FoMoCo removed this capability from the FordPass app earlier this year. As such, it seems quite likely that we’ll see something like this appear in future Ford vehicles at some point.

I would love to see a Powerboost option with 7.2 kw Pro Power Onboard for the Transit. This would be a very versatile vehicle.
