In recent years, the Ford Excursion has become a highly coveted collectible, and for good reason – no automaker builds or sells anything like it anymore. The Ford Super Duty-based SUV met an untimely demise due to emissions constraints and soaring gas prices, but today, nice, used examples fetch big money whenever one pops up for sale – a list that includes a 16k-mile 2003 Limited that hammered for a whopping $100k, as well as a 12k-mile modified example that sold for $70k recently. Now, this 2002 Ford Excursion Limited that’s up for grabs at Bring a Trailer figures to follow in those footsteps, as it has just 37k original miles.
This 2002 Ford Excursion is also modified, as it’s equipped with an aftermarket front bumper with a brush guard, 20-inch American Force wheels, Toyo M/T Open Country tires, a two-inch leveling kit, Icon Vehicle Dynamics shocks, and an Air Lift rear air bag suspension system. Otherwise, the blacked-out utility is essentially stock, and quite sinister-looking, we might add.
Inside the cabin, this well-equipped Excursion Limited features Medium Parchment leather seats with heat for the front passengers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a CD stereo, cruise control, and automatic climate control. There are no modifications inside the cabin, and everything looks essentially brand new, with few – if any – flaws to note.
Pop the hood, and one will find a familiar powerplant – the turbocharged 7.3L V8 Power Stroke diesel, which sends 250 horsepower and 525 pound-feet of torque to either the rear or all four wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and a limited-slip differential. In excellent condition as it sits, this 2002 Ford Excursion figures to rake in a healthy amount of money at auction – in spite of its modifications, which tend to devalue collector vehicles a tad.
