Ford Motor Company has filed a design patent for Ford Bronco DR toy replica, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on October 28th, 2021, published on August 22nd, 2023, and assigned serial number D996291.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has been busy filing design patents as of late, most recently showing off ideas for diecast versions of the high-performance Ford Bronco Raptor, the Ford Maverick compact pickup, Lincoln Navigator SUV, and Lincoln Zephyr sedan. Now, this newly filed patent suggests that Blue Oval fans may soon get the chance to buy their very own toy replica of the race-only Ford Bronco DR, which is notable for a number of reasons.
The Ford Bronco DR debuted back in November 2021 with 5.0L V8 Coyote power underhood and a host of modifications, including Multimatic Positional Selective DSSV Dampers, a Multimatic safety cage, billet aluminum lower control arms, a large tubular metal bumper, a roof-mounted LED light bar, a single-piece grille, and the same round headlamps, taillamps, trail sights, and frame (albeit a fortified one) as the production Bronco.
The stock body panels on the Bronco have been replaced with resin transfer molded (RTM) fiberglass panels to help shed weight. The DR rolls on a set of beadlock wheels wrapped with 37×12.5R17 BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 all-season tires, which feature a Krawl-TEK compound for improved grip on rocks and slick surfaces and a Linear Flex Zone that provides better grip when the tires are aired-down.
Since Ford only plans to build around 50 Bronco DR units per year with a starting price of $250,000, this special racer is obviously out of reach for most, making this potential toy replica perhaps the closest most of us will ever come to actually owning one.
